100kg Weight Loss Wonder
22 April 2013
“I feel like Superwoman!” exclaims Shari Ware, after losing a staggering 100kg. The weight loss wonder believes she can do anything after shedding more than half her original body weight with the help of The Biggest Loser Club, one of Australia’s leading online weight loss programs.
The 37 year old single mum from the Gold Coast, battled with her weight her entire life and weighed over 170kg before she decided to join The Biggest Loser Club. Within 3 years, Shari has dropped to a slim 70kg and is feeling fitter, healthier and happier, and is embarking on a new career as a personal trainer. “For me weight was always an issue. My parents are big and by the time I was 5 I was big too. I was about 100kg at 18 when I finished high school,” Shari recalls.
“I remember one incident on the bus where some kids were teasing me and pulling at my pantyhose until I had holes in them. Those years weren’t good. I went through school feeling very insecure.”
Shari’s weight ballooned even further after the birth of her daughter and the breakdown of her relationship with her partner.
“About 9 years ago my partner and I broke up. He never had a problem with my weight, but he had a problem with me having a problem with it. After we ended our relationship I just wanted to be unattractive for a long time. I hid behind my weight,” says Shari, who suspects her heaviest weight was somewhere near an unrecorded 180kg.
I busied myself with work, foster care and taking care of my daughter but I wasn’t happy and I knew I was a heart attack waiting to happen. I realised that if I didn’t take care of myself, I wasn’t going to be around to take care of anyone else.
Shari tried many diets with little success before watching The Biggest Loser series. She discovered The Biggest Loser Club, the online weight loss program the contestants of the show successfully use, and hasn’t looked back.
“I went on the program and selected the Express plan to see if I could lose the weight at a quicker rate and it worked. I lost 5kg in my first week and that gave me the motivation to stick to it.”
“I religiously used the online food diary to stick to my 1200 calorie limit and watched all the nutritional guidelines to make sure I got my fibre, fat and protein. I was exercising too – going to the gym 3 times a week.”
She also found the website’s resource centre and weekly newsletters helpful in educating herself about weight issues and kept motivated by the success stories of other members.
Today so much has changed. “Before The Biggest Loser Club I would eat lots of rice and pasta – now I have it once a week at most. I ate healthy food before but too much of it and on bad days I would have McDonald’s for breakfast, lunch at the shopping centre then KFC for dinner. The calorie total was huge, probably a whole week’s worth in one day.”
Aside from transforming her body, Shari’s life is changing in other ways.
“There are so many ways that losing weight has changed my life. Even little things like being able to get down on my knees and being able to put a little handbag over my shoulder. These are things I couldn’t do at 170kg. Recently, I went to Movie World. It was the first time I have ever been on a ride with my daughter – I couldn’t fit on the rides before.”
Shari is also changing careers and will soon achieve her dream of becoming a qualified personal trainer.
“I literally feel like I can do anything now. I believe we can do whatever we tell ourselves we can, and if we tell ourselves we can’t, then we can’t. I just keep telling myself I CAN.”
