CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet

One of Australia’s most successful diets, the CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet, is now available online and focuses on a higher protein, low Glycemic Index (GI) diet, that has been associated with greater fat loss, improved satiety and sustained weight loss maintenance.

For the first time, the CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet program includes low GI carbohydrate food and meal options, an online food tracker as well as the opportunity to connect with a community of like-minded digital dieters.

The personalised 12 week program also delivers customisable menu plans and shopping lists, and more than 1,000 recipes suitable for all the family.

This is the biggest update to the CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet since it launched in 2005. The scientifically proven, higher protein diet and its best-selling books have already helped more than half a million Australians lose weight.

Since launching the Total Wellbeing Diet online, the program has expanded to include additional services and health tools to cater to the individual needs of members. These include: weight loss coaching from Accredited Practising Dietitians, a special Pre Diabetes and Type 2 Diabetes edition and identifying your diet personality type via the Diet Types survey.

Most recently the new Protein Balance program was launched to help boost craving control through the redistribution of protein throughout the day. A new member app for iOS users was also released.

CSIRO has licensed Total Wellbeing Diet to SP Health for the development and management of the Total Wellbeing Diet program, in collaboration with the Glycemic Index Foundation. The Glycemic Index Foundation (GIF) is a not for profit health promotion charity supported by the University of Sydney and JDRF (Australia). GIF are a world leading global authority on Glycemic Index and health.

CSIRO Healthy Diet Score

CSIRO Healthy Diet Score

SP Health and CSIRO launched the CSIRO Healthy Diet Score survey as a way for Australians to measure the quality of their eating habits using a simple scoring system.

The CSIRO Healthy Diet Score is based on a scientifically validated online tool that assesses an individual’s self-reported food intake against the Australian Dietary Guidelines. The unique tool provides individuals with a personalised Diet Score and feedback on how to improve their score.

An individual’s score reflects their overall compliance with age and gender specific food group intake targets as described in the Australian Dietary Guidelines. Scores can range from 0-100, where 100 reflects greater compliance with the guidelines and a higher diet quality.

The survey is freely available to all Australians at the website

Since the launch in May 2015 over 200,000 people have completed the survey making Healthy Diet Score Australia's largest ever nutrition survey.

VegEze iOS app

SP Health in collaboration with CSIRO and Hort Innovation, developed VegEze, a new app to tackle Australia’s poor vegetable intake.

Using a gamified approach, the app aims to motivate Australians to add extra vegetables to their daily diets and form long-term, healthier habits through a 21-day ‘Do 3 at Dinner’ challenge.

Challenging users to eat three different vegetables at dinner every day, the VegEze app helps people track their intake and tally up vegetable serves, with daily reminders and rewards to help people stay motivated and on-track.

Information from app users will feed back into CSIRO’s study of Australians’ vegetable consumption, while helping to analyse the app’s effectiveness as an education initiative to improve Australia’s poor vegetable score card.

VegEze is a strategic investment levy under the Hort Innovation Fund.
